Gina M Newton
AUTHOR | PRESENTER | SCIENTIST
Hi and welcome. I love writing fun books for children about Australia’s unique biodiversity. I've trained as a marine biologist, zoologist, science communicator and author. My goal as a children’s author is to help kids get excited about, understand, and care for Australian wildlife and the environment.
I create fiction and information books - Picture, Middle Grade and YA. I've been greatly inspired by Master Classes with the late, great Bryce Courtney, and with the wonderful Fiona McIntosh. I’m thrilled that Amazing Animals of Australia’s National Parks (2016) won three prestigious awards, including the CBCA Eve Pownall Information Book of the Year, in 2017.
I hope you like my two new picture books, published in late 2020. I'm excited to announce that Hold On! Saving the Spotted Handfish has been shortlisted for the CBCA 2021 Eve Pownall award. My dream to make this little, ancient marine fish a household name is drawing closer! Watch out for my new releases later this year including my first Middle Grade novel.
